In this Update:
Team Zoe International Rides for FreedomCongratulations once again to Team ZOE International for cycling 3,000 miles and finishing in 1st place in the 8-man division of Race Across America 2025! The video above features a complete recap of our trip to Rouzerville, PA, on Friday, June 20, where we officially welcomed, cheered on and prayed for Team Zoe as they raced through the Keystone State on their way to the finish line on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey. As you will see in my onsite interviews with ZOE International Eastern Regional Director Brad Ortenzi and several of the cyclists—for Team ZOE—the race was never just about racking up miles or finishing first. It was about the mission. Every pedal mattered in helping raise awareness and support for children trapped in human trafficking. June is Life Month!June is LIFE MONTH! This month commemorates the third anniversary of the landmark overturning of Roe v. Wade. We celebrate the sacred right to life of all preborn children and that there is NO constitutional right to abortion. God says He knew us before He knit us together in our mother’s womb. Clearly, abortion is not healthcare. Let’s continue to boldly proclaim God’s truth in faith, grace and love so that all women throughout Pennsylvania still living with the scars from having their baby killed in their womb, can find peace, forgiveness, healing and truly be set free. Please continue to pray for those who find themselves in situations with unplanned pregnancies and feel they have no place to turn. If you find yourself in such a situation, please reach out to my offices or a friend who knows how to contact a Crisis Pregnancy Center. There is always hope for those seeking help. Bipartisan Legislation Would Allow Public to Attend Voting Machine InspectionsAs the Republican and Democrat chairs of the PA Senate State Government Committee, Sen. Steve Santarsiero (D-10) and I are the prime sponsors of bipartisan legislation that would allow the public to attend the Department of State’s functionality examinations of voting machines (Senate Bill 812). On Wednesday, we attended an examination of the ES&S EVS 6.5.0.0 Voting System at the Keystone Building, 400 North Street, Harrisburg Capitol Complex. By codifying public access, Senate Bill 812 helps to foster continued confidence in the transparency and security of our elections. Additionally, our bill will require the examinations to be posted online so that anyone can observe the functionality results of our voting systems. Honest, transparent and secure elections remain the cornerstone of our constitutional republic. I strongly encourage all Commonwealth citizens to participate in future functionality exams of our current voting systems. Closing Budget Deficit: Right Reason to Drill Baby DrillOur governor claims he’s tired of losing out to our neighboring states, but he is the one making us lose. State government controls the means to not only power future technology and job-creating employers, but also to provide “feedstock” for high demand products such as life-saving medical supplies and surgical equipment, highway asphalt, car seats and dashboards, cell phones, laptops, lipstick and so many others. However, governors Wolf and Shapiro have denied access to both energy independence and unprecedented economic prosperity by placing a moratorium on safe, non-evasive drilling for natural gas under our state parks and forests. Earlier this month, an extraordinary technological advancement led to a new world record of a 5.2 mile, lateral (horizontal) natural gas well drilled in neighboring West Virginia! For Pennsylvania, this means an existing well pad located a quarter of a mile outside our state parks and forests could be used to access natural gas several thousand feet below the surface and generate unprecedented revenue for the entire Commonwealth without disturbing the natural landscape, flora or fauna. Lifting this senseless, job-killing drilling moratorium would deliver a more predictable, reliable and lucrative boost to Pennsylvania’s economy. Far exceeding any of the governor’s doubled-down, unrealistic revenue schemes which revolve around the improbable legalization of recreational marijuana and imposing additional tax increases on skill games. With the Shell cracker plant near Pittsburgh already creating numerous expansion opportunities for manufacturers, the increasing demand from AI on our electrical grid, and the governor’s appetite for rampant deficit spending, the time has come to “Drill Baby Drill!” in our state parks and forests. School Bus Safety Grant Program Applications AcceptedSchool districts, school bus companies and municipalities have until July 3 to apply for state grants to improve school bus safety and pay for training and other costs associated with attracting much-needed school bus drivers. Legislation passed by the General Assembly allows school districts to install automated camera systems to enforce the state School Bus Stopping Law and increase safety for school children. A portion of the fines paid by violators are used for the School Bus Safety Grant Program. Details and the online application are available here. Celebrating Great Outdoors MonthThe arrival of summer means plenty of opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy what nature has to offer locally and across our commonwealth. Pennsylvania is home to cool, green forests, thousands of pristine lakes and streams, hiking trails and state parks. Find plenty of ways to explore the great outdoors of our region and the state here.
