Flood Recovery Moving Forward Thanks to Frontline Emergency Responders

On Tuesday, I joined with emergency management officials from the Potter County Department of Emergency Services and emergency responders from the Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Company to assess severe flood damage caused by the remnants of Hurricane Debby.

Of course, many roads and bridges throughout Senate District 25 are still closed, detoured or have lane restrictions due to flooding, downed trees or utilities.

Updated listings of regional road closures are available here. Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com or downloading the free 511PA app.

My offices will continue to work closely with the PA Emergency Management Agency, Potter County Department of Emergency Services and other emergency management officials to ensure that state resources are swiftly mobilized to support recovery efforts across Senate District 25.

May God continue to bless and protect all our dedicated emergency responders who are selflessly going beyond the call of duty to save lives and keep our communities safe.

Potter County Multi-Agency Resource Center Open Through Saturday

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Potter County Department of Emergency Services are operating a Multi-Agency Resource Center at Northern Potter High School to provide various types of assistance to flood-impacted residents.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Friday, Aug. 16, from noon to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 17, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

An array of state and county agencies will be on hand to aid with things such as insurance claims, replacing vital documents, well water testing kits, crisis counseling services and more.

Firearms Rights, Concealed Carry Seminar Locked In for Aug. 27

My next Firearms Rights and Concealed Carry Seminar is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 27. Beginning at 6 p.m., this no-cost informational event will be held at the Saint Marys Area High School Auditorium, 977 South St. Marys Street, St. Marys.

Unfortunately, in Pennsylvania, even the most “well-intentioned” or “common-sense” gun legislation can rapidly mutate, multiply and come to fruition as tyrannical, Orwellian firearm confiscation and control dictates

Whether you are considering applying for a concealed carry permit or already have one, this no-cost seminar is an excellent opportunity to become fully informed about freely, responsibly, and legally exercising your God-given right to keep and bear arms.

Elk County District Attorney Beau Grove, Elk County Sheriff Todd Caltagarone, Pennsylvania Game Warden Peyton Edwards, St. Marys Chief of Police Thomas Nicklas, and certified National Rifle Association instructors Joe Kalynchuk and Jim Lellock will present the facts and answer questions about Pennsylvania’s concealed carry process, the Castle Doctrine and other valuable information regarding state and federal gun laws, including:

  • How to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
  • Self-defense and your rights.
  • Reciprocity laws.
  • State hunting and trespassing laws.

Article 1, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution unquestionably states: “The right of the citizen to bear arms in defense of themselves and the state Shall Not Be Questioned.”

Everyone who does or plans to own a firearm has the responsibility to become well-versed in what you can and cannot do as a law-abiding gun owner. Once again, I am pleased to offer this highly informative, no-cost learning opportunity to Senate District 25 residents.

Due to limited seating, interested individuals must pre-register for this FREE seminar as soon as possible by visiting www.SenatorDush.com or contacting my Brookville district office at 814-646-7272.

Celebrating Friends and Families at McKean County Fair

Any definition of a full and productive life must include service to others.

I was happy to help kick off the McKean County Fair, on Sunday Aug. 11, by recognizing the 2024 Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Friend of the Fair award recipients, Zach and Kate Nelson.

The owners of Mckan Trucking, LLC and PV Paving & Concrete, the Nelson family has generously supported the McKean County Fair for many years, including sponsoring the closing day of the fair, providing dumpster services and trash removal for the fair, and donating tons of asphalt millings to resurface walkaways at the fairgrounds.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Nelson family was Doug Nelson.
