PA Senators Honor Penn State’s THON Fundraiser

HARRISBURG – Senators Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35), Cris Dush (R-25) and Scott Martin (R-13) are honoring the thousands of Penn State students who participate in the annual THON fundraiser to support families affected by pediatric cancer.

THON provides both emotional and financial support for families who benefit from the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital. As the largest student-run philanthropy effort in the world, THON has raised $236 million since its creation in 1973.

The year-long fundraiser culminates in a 46-hour dance marathon that will take place February 21-23 at the Bryce Jordan Center. A livestream of the event is available at https://thon.org/livestream.

THON raised nearly $17 million in 2024 alone.

The Senators introduced a resolution designating the week of February 17-23 as “THON Week” in Pennsylvania and honoring the work of the 16,500 Penn State student volunteers who make the fundraiser possible by donating more than 5 million hours of their own time.

“Penn State THON exemplifies the dedication of students, alumni, and supporters united in the fight against pediatric cancer,” said Langerholc. “Their tireless efforts provide hope, support, and financial relief to families in need, and I’m honored to recognize their commitment through this resolution.”

“Personally speaking, I consider THON to be an excellent example of practicing God’s second Commandment: to LOVE our neighbors as ourselves,” said Dush. “It is an absolute blessing to see thousands of Penn State students, along with their organizational teammates, becoming actively involved in providing critical financial and emotional support to young children and their families who have been tragically impacted by cancer.”

“I am extremely proud and grateful for all the young people supporting THON throughout the year and making a real difference in the lives of families affected by childhood cancer,” Martin said. “The love, encouragement and resources they provide are essential to families at their most vulnerable time.”
