BELLEFONTE — Sen. Cris Dush (R-25) and Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-171) today announced that more than $1 million in Local Share Account (LSA) grants have been approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for six projects serving Centre County communities.
“LSA grants are important investments in public safety and quality of life for residents of all ages,” said Dush. “Securing this highly competitive funding is a huge win for taxpayers, motorists, emergency responders and local governments who will not have to bear the economic burden for more than $1 million in critical maintenance equipment purchases and various water infrastructure upgrades.”
“I was proud to fight for this funding, which will support critical infrastructure projects across our communities,” said Benninghoff. “These projects will include necessary equipment for our public works crews.”
Specific LSA grant recipients include:
• Miles Township – $200,000 – Krislund Camp and Conference Center — A non-profit, faith-based retreat that brings thousands of visitors to Miles Township annually — Is receiving LSA funding to replace the onsite wastewater treatment system. Krislund must retire the failing original system and transfer all wastewater treatment to the new system to meet DEP requirements. The project includes the installation of a new wet well, force main, emergency generator, sewage pumps and pump controls.
• Miles Township Water Authority East — $200,000 — To purchase and install an emergency generator as a secondary backup power source for the Rebersburg water treatment plant. The project will include construction of the concrete pad for the generator, duct bank and trench work, automatic transfer switches and surge protection devices to deliver uninterrupted water treatment during emergencies.
• Millheim Township Water Authority — $250,000 — To purchase and install a water plant emergency generator. The new generator will enable the plant to continuously provide safe drinking water to customers during power outages.
• Penn Township — $91,870 — To purchase new track loader skid steer equipment for road and stormwater infrastructure maintenance projects.
• Potter Township — $150,000 — To purchase new snow plough truck and snow removal attachments. The updated equipment will allow the township to maintain 15 miles of rural infrastructure year-round.
• Walker Township — $120,340 — To purchase new track loader skid steer equipment and attachments such as a hydraulic angle brook, forks and a high flow planer. This equipment will be used for roadway maintenance and repair activities such as material handling, snow removal and road surface repairs to positively impact infrastructure longevity.
Local Share Account funds are generated under the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 71 of 2004), which provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the CFA to support projects in the public interest across Pennsylvania. The CFA is an independent agency and administers Pennsylvania economic development programs and investments.
