In this Update:
Our Constitutional Republic: It’s ‘Go Time’ for ‘We the People’As demonstrated in my “Sports Franchise Analogy” video above, our electoral process cannot effectively function without the support and full participation of the government franchise owners, “We The People!” Tuesday, Oct. 29, is the deadline for applying to vote by mail in the upcoming Nov. 5 election. To apply online, or to download a paper copy of the application, click here. You may also apply in person at your county voter registration office. If your county’s ballots are available, you could also vote at that time, assuming your mail-in ballot application is approved. Check the availability of ballots in your county here. Once you receive your mail-in ballot, the deadline to return it to your county election office is 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5. Additional information about voting by mail is here. Ready…Research…VOTE! If you’re a qualified elector already registered to vote—it is your responsibility to carefully research the individuals and policy platforms of those seeking office. Most importantly, take a few minutes—twice a year—to VOTE for those you find worthy. For extra motivation or more information, watch my video above! Kane Mayor Brandy Schimp Earns PA Mayor of the Year AwardOn Oct. 9, following a long session day in Harrisburg, I drove to McKean County to attend a special Borough of Kane council meeting where Kane Mayor Brandy Schimp was officially honored with the 2024 Pennsylvania Mayor of the Year Award. Without question, Brandy won this award due to her strong sense of community. From her own words during her acceptance speech, “some people throw money at a problem, we throw the dedicated people of Kane at a problem.” She humbly thanked God, a supportive family and the volunteerism of the proud people of Kane for winning the award. Earlier this year, Brandy and the Kane PTO were presented with the 2024 Inspiring Youth Award at the annual Champions of the PA Wild Awards banquet. Brandy is a phenomenal mayor and an even better person. Congratulations Mayor Schimp and thank you for all your hard work and tremendous dedication to the people you serve! Senator for A Day: A Learning Opportunity to RememberOn Oct. 11, I hosted my second-annual Senator for a Day seminar, held at Sacred Heart Parish in St. Marys, for nearly 50 students representing seven local school districts from across the 25th Senate District. This hands-on learning experience allows our future leaders to see how their state government works. Students were sworn in to serve as “senators” and presented with opportunities to craft and debate legislation in various committees. To close out the day, they debated the bills before the full “Senate.” Rather than reading about the legislative process, our high school lawmakers actively engaged in helping to shape policies and laws that impact their everyday lives. This was a memorable and informative day for all who participated, including teachers, administrators and my highly dedicated team who made this learning opportunity enjoyable and rewarding for the students and myself! Honoring a Fallen HeroI was honored to join members of the Stewart family, Rep. Brian Smith and Pennsylvania State Police Troop C at Emerickville Lutheran Cemetery for the headstone dedication of fallen Pennsylvania State Police Private Charles Stewart. In the early morning hours of Friday, July 18, 1930, Private Stewart was assigned to a surveillance detail at the Grandview Cemetery near Monongahela, Washington County. After Private Stewart approached a passerby for questioning, the stranger pulled a gun and fired three shots at him. Private Stewart returned fire and killed his assailant. Private Stewart died while undergoing surgery at Memorial Hospital, Monongahela. He was the 40th member of the Pennsylvania State Police to be killed in the line of duty. More than $9.7 Million Benefiting Senate District 25 Schools, MunicipalitiesThanks to the collective effort of local and state leaders, our communities will soon be receiving substantial investments for needed infrastructure and school facility improvements. This includes more than $9.7 million in Local Share Account (LSA gaming revenue) grants and Public School Facility Improvement grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for projects throughout Senate District 25. These grants are important investments in the safety and quality of life for residents of all ages. Securing this highly competitive funding is a huge win for even more homeowners, employers, local governments, emergency responders, police and farmers who will not have to bear the economic burden for millions of dollars of critical infrastructure and school facility upgrades.
