On Monday, I had the privilege of welcoming Henry “Hank” Lustig to the Big 33 Football Classic Celebration at the PA Capitol.

Hank is a standout 2026 wide receiver/cornerback from State College Area High School who committed to Penn State University as a preferred walk-on in January 2026.

This 5'9", 155-pound playmaker earned first-team All-State honors in 2025 with 642 receiving yards and 11 total TDs.

Congratulations Hank on all your well-deserved accolades as a premiere student athlete and best wishes for future success.

The Big 33, known as the Super Bowl of High School Football, is an exciting matchup featuring PA vs. MD. For more information visit Big33.org.

On Tuesday, by a landslide vote of 49-0, the Pennsylvania Senate successfully advanced legislation—brought to my attention by a very ambitious group of Bucktail High School students—which I proudly sponsored to officially change our state fossil to the Hynerpeton Bassetti (Senate Bill 829).

For those who may not know, the Hynerpeton Bassetti was a powerful four-limbed, pre-historic creature that most closely resembled today’s modern-day hellbender salamander.

It was discovered in 1993 at the Red Hill fossil site in Hyner, Pennsylvania—
which is about a five-minute drive down Route 120 from Bucktail Middle and High School in Clinton County.

More important than winning any conflicting arguments with very convincing answers as to why Bucktail’s Colossal @harrythehynerpeton mascot deserves to become our next state fossil, I also had the honor of once again collaborating alongside and congratulating several dedicated Bucktail Ecology Club Students at our beautiful state Capitol.

They have all worked tirelessly to get this landmark legislation—recognizing a milestone achievement in local archaeology and a fossil that is exclusively unique to Pennsylvania— “teed up” for final consideration on the floor of the Pennsylvania Senate.

By expertly balancing all of their daily schedules between school, homework, family and so many other extracurricular activities, they have all set a tremendous example for other students to emulate and have proven that a great team, with a great mascot—like @harrythehynerpeton—is truly unstoppable.

Senate Bill 829 now advances to the PA House for hopefully prompt and equally affirmative consideration.

U.S. and PA flags should be made in America.

Reflecting a growing effort to support American manufacturing, the PA Senate has unanimously approved legislation ensuring every U.S. and Pennsylvania flag purchased by the Commonwealth is made entirely in the U.S. using American materials.

Senate Bill 784 requires the Pennsylvania Department of General Services to procure only flags that are both produced and constructed from materials sourced within the U.S. Each flag must also carry a label reading “Made in America.”

Currently awaiting PA House consideration, this measure, which I was proud to shepherd through as Chairman of the Senate State Government Committee, not only promotes American-made products within state procurement practices, it prevents the use of taxpayer dollars to purchase flags from nations that do not share the values of Pennsylvania citizens.
