Dush, Causer Announce $1.5 Million in School Facility Grants

HARRISBURG –Two area school districts were collectively awarded $1.5 million in state funding to support much-needed facility improvement projects, Sen. Cris Dush (R-25) and Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter) announced today.

“This funding will ensure that necessary improvements at Oswayo Valley and Otto-Eldred are completed for the benefits of both the students who learn there and the teachers that teach there,” said Dush. “As we know, schools are largely supported by property taxes. By leveraging available state funding to help these schools, we can ensure that hard-working families already struggling with ever-rising costs and inflation do not have bear a higher tax burden for essential school facility upgrades.”

Oswayo Valley School District was awarded $1 million in support of an HVAC project at the elementary school. The project involves replacement of the air units and boilers to improve temperature control and energy efficiency. Piping infrastructure will also be replaced and system controls optimized.

Otto-Eldred School District was awarded $505,000 to replace and restore the roof at Otto-Eldred Junior-Senior High School. The district will replace areas of the roof with wind damage and those prone to leaks. Other sections will undergo restoration.

“It’s so important to ensure our students have safe and comfortable schools in which to learn, and these grants will go a long way toward helping Oswayo Valley and Otto-Eldred meet significant HVAC and roofing needs,” Causer said. “I was pleased to advocate for these important investments.”

The grants were awarded through the Public School Facility Improvement Grant program, which provides grants to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects. Each of the school districts must provide 25% of the project cost in matching funds.
