Dush and Smith Confirm $4.15 Million Awarded to Brookville Municipal Authority for Lead Service Line Removal and Replacement

HARRISBURG — Sen. Cris Dush (R-25) and Rep. Brian Smith (R-66) today announced that Brookville Municipal Authority is set to receive $4.15 million to replace 350 lead service lines, with 340 located in the Borough of Brookville and ten located in Pine Creek Township.

Awarded by PENNVEST, the $4.15 million is comprised of a $2.9 million loan and $1.2 million grant. The interest rate on the loan is 1% for the first five years and 1% for year six through maturity.

“Clean, affordable, and reliable drinking water is among the most fundamental needs of any community,” said Dush. “This grant financing and low-interest loan from PENNVEST will allow the Brookville Municipal Authority to proactively eliminate and replace all currently identified lead service lines to better ensure a non-toxic and dependable water supply while remaining in full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. Securing this highly competitive funding will cost-effectively maintain an economically responsible price ceiling for customers within the Borough of Brookville and Pine Creek Township.”

Without this PENNVEST funding and principal forgiveness loan package, user rates would increase by approximately 115%.

“The people of Brookville have a right to safe, clean drinking water,” Smith said. “This project will ensure they have it for years to come.”

Since its inception in 1988, PENNVEST has served communities and citizens by funding sewer, storm water and drinking water projects across the Commonwealth. PENNVEST funding does not come from the state’s General Fund budget, but through the use of federal funding and prior bond issues by the state, as well as proceeds from Act 13 of 2012, the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee.
