(HARRISBURG) – Calling local governments an integral part of the American experience, state Senator Cris Dush (R-25) introduced a Senate Resolution recognizing Local Government Day and Week in Pennsylvania.
Senate Resolution 94 declares April 11 to 18 as local government week and April 14 as local government day because of Pennsylvania’s rich tradition of local government that dates back to the founding of the commonwealth.
“In this great commonwealth, local government is government closest to the people,” said Senator Dush, who is chair of the Senate Local Government Committee. “Every day, municipal government impacts the lives and provides the necessary infrastructure and services to keep our communities going.”
Pennsylvania is home to more than 4,500 local government units including 2,560 municipalities. Watch Senator Dush’s full remarks on Senate floor here.
“In cities and counties, townships and boroughs, municipal elected officials have answered the call to service, dedicating themselves to the people of the communities,” Senate Dush said. “I am honored to recognize the good work of Pennsylvania’s local governments.”
